How to Verify Token Contracts Before Swapping

Scammers ship tokens that imitate real ones — a "USDC" that is not USDC, with a slightly different contract. If your swap routes into one, the money is gone and no one is reversing it.

The address is the only reliable identifier. A ticker symbol proves nothing; the contract address is what tells you whether you are looking at the real token.

In the token picker, AEXI displays the contract address for every token, shortened to the first and last six characters — something like 0xa0b8...9ec4.

Next to it sits a direct link (↗) to the block explorer for that chain — Etherscan, Arbiscan, Polygonscan and so on — so you can verify the contract without copy-pasting anything.

Token lists are cross-referenced against LI.FI's curated database, which maintains a vetted set of legitimate contracts.

Note the address AEXI shows under the token name, then follow the ↗ link to the explorer page.

Check that the name and symbol on the explorer match what you expect, and look for the verified-source checkmark Etherscan places on contracts whose code has been published.

Finally, glance at holders and activity. Established tokens show thousands of holders and steady volume; a freshly deployed contract rarely does.

A name that does not match exactly — "USD Coin Official" instead of "USD Coin" is a classic tell.

A contract days old with fewer than a hundred holders and near-zero volume.

Approval prompts that look unusual, or transfer logic you cannot explain.

A token discovered through a social media link rather than an official source.

When something feels off, skip the swap. The market will still be there tomorrow.
